Student-Athlete Substance Abuse Policy

The Tazewell County School Board has unanimously passed a random drug-testing policy to help serve as a deterrent for student athletes who might be pressured to try drugs. The testing will be funded by a grant award received by Tazewell County Commonwealth Attorney Dennis Lee. Please select the links located on the left under Athletics to review the policy, pledge program, and parent agreement.

Any student who needs to make up seat time can attend Seat Hour Recovery Class with Mrs. Melett Smith in Room 206 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school starting a 7:30.  Please bring assignments to work on and your log sheet for Mrs. Smith to sign off on.  On days TCPS is on two hour delay remember that Seat Hour Recovery Class will begin at 9:30.

Influenza is widespread in our community.  Symptoms include:  sudden onset of fever, headache, body aches and chills and exhaustion.  This is quickly followed by upper respiratory symptoms like coughing, sore throat and nasal stuffiness or runny nose.  Please do not come to school if you have a fever above 100 and do not return until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.  Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  Do not share drinks.  Keep a safe distance from your "neighbors."  Use good coughing technique.  If you need more information, see the school nurse or health assistant.
